In observance of international “Earth Hour,” the Montana Western environmental club Terra Verde will present a showing of Disney’s “Earth” on March 27 at 8:30 p.m. “Earth Hour” is an international event encouraging people to turn off lights and appliances for one hour to reduce energy use.

In 2007, the people of Sydney, Australia started “Earth Hour” as a demonstration of the need to take action against climate change. The event is now observed in over 4,000 cities in 88 countries.

“The idea is to turn off all unnecessary lights and appliances for one hour so we try to get as many people as possible into one area so they aren’t using electricity,” said Heather Reiss, Terre Verde president.

This is the second year Terre Verde participated, and the club hopes to see the event continue to grow in Dillon.

“Earth,” which includes footage from the British Broadcasting Channel’s “Planet Earth” series, showcases natural wonders of the world. The movie will be shown in the STC Great Room on Montana Western’s campus and is free of charge.
